I bought a gps with lifetime upgrades. Pricey piece of junk. Its laying around some place. Only used it once or twice. Once I look at the map on my laptop I know where I'm going and don't need it. Once I get on a highway all I need to know is N, E, W, or S. Where I really need a gps is when my fuel is low or we need supplies in a town etc. DW turns on her smart phone (android) and charts me a quick route. Never noticed that to use up much data. The gps on the smart phone is very useful when we are in the toad in Los Angeles, Phoenix, or Denver. Makes zipping around town easier. I actually found, although upgrades are free on my gps, it drains my internet data a lot keeping up with the uptrades. I don't have that problem with the smart phone. Plus all the other items I need are also on the smart phone like gas buddy etc. I have also found the directions on the smart phone to be more reliable and quicker to access. The couple of times I used the stand alone gps it was a neat toy but not all that useful
