Greasing wheel bearings

I will be doing a 10,000 km trip next summer. Before I go, thee bearing will be cleaned, inspected and regreased.

Generally, with all my trailers, I grease them once a season.

However, I have never put quite that many miles on per season.

So, how many km should wheel bearings be repacked?
  • Re Swimming _spre,,wheel went flying, ripped off brake wires and burnt my hand when I touched the smoking hub to see if it was hot. (dumb, dumb, dumb.)

I had treated myself to having a tech pack my bearings.

Never again. I do mine every year or 12,000 miles. Regrease, replace bearings as necessary and change the seals and cotter pins every time.

The tech left out a coffee pin. :(

I've tried, but just can't keep the darned things lit. :)

    ROFLMAO.......

Bearings must be like those cigarette butts in the urinal which are soggy and hard to light.

    What is a coffee pin??
  • Did 18,000 miles in 3 months,From Mi to Fla & up the west coast to Alaska and back & had no bearing problems.Getting it greased before we left the Tech asked WHY DO YOU WANT ME TO USE AMSOIL GREASE?? Because I've Never had a Problem with it.
  • When repacking wheel bearings, how full do you pack the center of the hub between the front and rear bearings?

The center hub air space does not need lubrication.

My feelings are you are right and for a good reason (other than wasting good grease). I have always been told the center must be void of lubrication to give proper heat dissipation of the bearings.
