I like your approach of using the highest octane gas for certain small 4-cycle motors. I may switch to it for my Honda generators and 4-stroke Mercury outboard.
However I may "have you beat" regarding my 2-cycle chainsaw and weed whacker motors that sit around a lot. I got so tired of them being difficult to start ... that I now use $20+ per gallon pre-mixed hardware store gas for them. Now they start right up before my arm arthritis does. Luckily, I don't need much gas per year for them!
