I think the "gray slime" I described after the 24 hour carb dip actually was metal removed from the carb body. It probably enlarged air passages, the slide housing, and a bunch of other things so that now it won't run properly.
By the way, a new carb was about $20 on Amazon!
But, on the the bright side, I got a new ultrasonic cleaner out of the deal!

Highly unlikely that a corrosive carb cleaner deteriorated the carb metal. I have a gallon of Berryman's here and have been dipping carb bodies in it for years. All aluminum carb bodies come out clean and need no other work except a rinse with solvent and a blow down with compressed air.
The grey slime may have been the remnants of the green algae/water/bad fuel that you wanted removed.
