Somebody was describing here the other day about how he uses his Morningstar MPPT controller as his converter powered by a 24v power supply simulating a 24v solar panel. He said Morningstar tech support approved this set-up that it would work ok.
You can't do that with a Shunt controller though. They operate by shorting the panel, so it would wreck the power supply input by shorting it.
