One of the big differences beweeen Branded and unbranded gasoline is quality control. I'm not so sure there is that big a difference at the refinery but for example.. Michigan has a law that says for a specific size tank you can only have so much water in the bottom of the tank..
Standard Oil. back in its day. had a standard for water in teh tank too. 1/2 of the Michigan standard. If you have 51% of what MI allows. they sent a truck and pumped you out. fixed it and billed you.
A friend of mine laughed at me for paying for Standard.. Till I had to tow his ride to the shop so the mechanic could put in a new in-tank fuel pump. the water froze and broke it.
