For the 50 amp pedestal get a a 50 amp to 15 amp dogbone.

This is what I use. Hand held, easy to get out and just plug it in before you start setting up your RV.

Can pick them up at any box store, WM, etc. Shows all the possible situations power source can have, remember you can have any of these nasty situations shown on this tester and not know it because it will still provide power to your RV if you don't test it first.



After checking the shore station I then plug it into an outlet 'inside' the MH so I can monitor any 'changes'/'problems' that might occur during my stay.

I built my own so I could use this Prime Products tester to check not only for errors but also acceptable source voltage.





Must be getting lazy though, most often these days I just plug in and let my Progressive EMS decide what to do. ;)

If you also use the 15/20A receptacle, and it's GFI, and you want to test that too, there's a version of those 3-Light testers that has a GFI Test Button on it.

I always check with my home made pedestal checker,cheap but it works.

Saves me the hassel of dragging everything out.

I had all these around the house,why not use them...
I also use my 50amp to 30amp adapter to check the 50amp side. Sometimes I like them better as the are in better shape.

You want to test the 50 amp, 30 amp, or 20 amp outlets? Or all of them.

Go to this site, click on Outlet Testing, scroll down, and there are links to show how to make a plug in 50 amp tester and a 3o amp tester. I made a 50 amp tester, but with adapters I can test 30 and 20 with it also.

I find more problems with wiring issues within the plugs at the shore station than I do with voltage. AND if your shore station has voltage problems chances are the whole CG does. And its time to re-think staying at that CG.

For me this works fast and easy and I know that the shore station is working BEFORE I park and drag out any of my power cords, inline protectors etc.

We had an electrician called to our shore station for an open ground. All of us were parked in the rain on water soaked ground using the same shore station. No one wanted to plug in.

He came out and started ranting about RV'ers complaining all the time about nothing and that there was NO open ground.

Plugged in the tester and asked him to explain why it was showing open ground? He stormed off, manger came out opened up the whole shore station and repaired it and apologized.

For about 2 bucks for the tester, I think it's a good investment to have one on board an RV. :C

I do that too. I put a new male plug on the RV cable, took the soft rubber female end off the 50 ==> 30 adapter, and replaced it with a box with a righteous 30A pedestal receptacle. Much better contacts than on an extension cord. I'm trying to reduce my exposure to damaged 30A pedestal receptacles. Also gets me around 30A pedestal breakers that have gone "Soft" and trip way below 30.
