I was using a Campbell Hausfield 12 volt portable that I bought for $20. It lasted one season keeping 65 lb tires aired up. I then bought a combo unit that had its own battery, air compressor, jump start cables, an inverted, charging ports, etc for about $80 and used it to keep 80 lb tires aired up and it lasted about a year and a half. I took each unit apart to see if it could be repaired and found each one had a cheap piston arrangement that used a rubber grommet-like piston ring. The rubber had failed and the piston pin was not far behind. I would think your pistol compressor would fare about the same as my first two compressors. I swallowed hard and bought a good 12 volt unit that puts out 1-2 cfm and am happy with that. Another problem with the pistol unit as I see it is that you have to stand there and hold that thing in place and I really hate the cramps that would create in my body. Who wants to eat lunch holding a compressor? :-)
