Gjac, I feel you. Blew up a vintage Simpson 260 Analog on wrong scale working on a residential water heater. I brought it in for repair and there was just too much burned out... Made me sick, still does. For a few things, Analog will tell you things Digital won't.
I just returned from Fla , the MH never made it out of Ct this year. When I returned I checked the batteries after reading these HF posts and were getting strange readings, I then realized the red lead wire broke. I replaced the leads from one my destroyed meters and all was well again. Not bad for free. Batteries sat all winter with no charge and still read 12.3 volts same with boat battery.
