Batteries have a specified charge Voltage which is tied to battery temperature. Some battery mfgrs publish a Volts : temperature chart or formula. Q: Why do they do this? A: Because the correct Voltage will lead to Optimal charging. Optimal is a balance between charge time, battery life, and loss of use while being charged.
When choosing a charger, it is useful to at least match the chargers Vabs to the battery's charge Voltage.
A battery that will experience a wide range of temperatures will also benefit from a charger with automatic temperature compensation, or a charger with a manual voltage adjustment(and an IR gun is desirable).
The same concept applies to float charge and temperature.
