The Freedom 10 has a built-in 30 amp circuit breaker in the incoming AC connection, so perhaps it is legit to connect the shore cord directly to it. A possibility is that the Freedom 10, in a sense, sacrificed itself to save the other AC devices in the RV. When the incoming AC is applied, there's a delay before the transfer switch is engaged. If the voltage is outside of the spec'd AC range, perhaps it does not engage the transfer switch (I do not know this). Have you tried resetting the Freedom's breakers? You said they're flush with the panel, and you're probably right that they'd be pushed out if tripped. If you haven't done this, try pushing them in anyway.
