Help, Electrical issue????

the converter is getting 110v ac. I did check output of converter with battery disconnected.

Did you check that the converter was getting 110V AC?

Maybe. But some converters are smart enough to not try to charge a stone dead battery.

First step is to use an external charger to fully charge the battery. With it fully charged, have it load tested (free at places that sell batteries). Once battery is charged and proven good, see if the converter will work. If not replace it.

You are right, eleven months is about all one can get out of a charge.

Have you checked water levels in the battery(s)? A bad cell could cause the converter/charger to shut down. Look for a tripped circuit-breaker (120v,ac, input side) or a blown fuse (charger 12v,dc, output side).

The refrigerator needs 12v, dc, to operate the control-board. Also; the converter portion of charger would output 13.2 volts to the circuit. The charger portion should output at least 13.6 volts to charge the batteries if depleted some.

If it is not working you will most likely find the battery voltage at the battery-terminals to be less than 12.6 volts.

Did you accidently leave the batteries on "disconnect" when you last stored the RV? If so the batteries could not be charged while stored on shore-power. Running the converter with battery on "disconnect" can be tricky at times. Any short power, loss, surge, could cause the fuse to blow. The battery actually helps to control voltage on the circuit.

A battery "new" in May could be dead as a doornail in June if used and not properly maintained. Have you charged it with a charger other than the onboard converter? Check the battery voltage and the water level in each cell to be sure where you are before going into anything else.

Check the converter by using a digital voltmeter at the battery:

13.0 VDC or higher-- converter on
12.7 VDC fully charged battery at rest
12.2 VDC 50% discharged battery at rest

the battery was new in May and I did check the GFI. I will check the output of converter next.

Check your GFI and see if it tripped, If tripped, push the reset. GFI's usually will also protect several outlets further down stream.
