HELP! Slide Problem

Just picked up my TT to prepare for a trip next weekend. Tried to open the slide and the rear slide would move a few inches but the front side of the slide would not move.

It is a Schwintek in wall mechanism. Went to there site and found the trouble shooting and tried to release the break to get the slide out, but nothing works. It appears to me that the motor is froze up. As I can't get the slide open I can't release the motor mechanically.

I know I could bring it in for service, but chances of getting it in and repaired in time to leave on Friday or slim to none. I can use it manually for the weekend and bring it in when we get back.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • After fiddling with it for 4hrs on and off, it mysteriously started working. I will be in touch withe the dealer, forest river, and schwintek next week about the issue.

    Thanks for your help.
  • You have a real problem here that only the dealer can resolve. I had the same thing happen to mine at the beginning of the year. Turns out that the screw that holds the motor in place is on the outside of the trailer. If you can get at the screw, and you can get it out, you have to pop the motor up about 3/4 of an inch and then one can manually, although it is tough, move the slide in or out. You have to do both sides also. Turns out that one of my motors rusted over the winter and froze, so only one side of the slide would move at all. Not sure what the dealer did to get it fixed, but I ended up with 2 new motors with updated gear ratios. The dealer modified the inside of the frame so that if this happens again, they can get to the motors from the inside as well as the outside.

It took about a week to get the slide functional again.

    Good luck.
  • Not familiar with that type..but, here's a link from earlier this year there's a link about 5 posts down in the thread for a manual and the manual has a trouble shooting flowchart. Hope this is of some use to you.
