7-8A DC from the battery, including inverter losses, might not seem like much this adds up to 60-80 AH a day. Basically, it means running generator every day for one hour for the fridge alone, even on those days when you don't need air conditioner.
As to your current situation - fill the volume with whatever you have. You probably don't want to load more food than you need, but you can fill it with packaging popcorn (put them in bags), or empty bottles (closed tight). Then less cold air would spill out every time you open the door.
Before doing all that, fix your fridge. 43F is not normal.
