Help! What purpose does this water line serve? Pic included.

Hello. We had to replace our water tank. Now we are wondering if this line connecting the hot and cold water serves any purpose?
If not...we will simply remove it.

  • Just to be clear. You really don't want to pump anti-freeze into your water heater. It's sufficient to drain it and leave the valve open.
  • We were also wondering if that is PEX or PVC. Assuming it is PVC as the line is marked, "180*F / 100 PSI"
  • You guys are awesome. Thanks for your quick responses. We live in a northern climate. First year RVer's. So we haven't winterized yet. I am thinking we will drain the water tank from the outside. Put in a winterizing solution for Rv's.
No washing machine in our R.V., lol.

I had offered the idea of the washmachine, but then deleted it because I didn't think it was correct. But I'd say it's needed for something just from the standpoint that the mfg wouldn't have spent any money on it if it wasn't needed. Look at what they don't spend money on that they should have.

Depends on what you do to winterize.
  • So I can just remove it? As I really don't need any more fittings that could possibly leak. I cant tighten the fittings too much or the hose won't fit properly. I sure don't want to over tighten fittings going into a new aluminum tank.
