Help with fuel transfer valve

It is so that I can open and close the aux tank from the cab without stopping.

I will probably just leave this out to start. It is another point of failure. I guess the newly found gas cap should stop any spills.

Here is what my research and feedback is leading.

Use the RDS kit. It comes with a manual shutoff valve for the tank and a check valve for the fuel filler hose.

RDS recommended using a Diesel and Def cap designed for the new Rams.

On long drives, leave the manual shutoff valve open.

I am still undecided on the solenoid. Too many complaints on failures. If I use it, I will install it before the RDS kit and after the manual shutoff valve in the tank. I guess the worst that could happen is that it stays closed and I don't get to use the aux tank. The other scenario of it staying open can always be managed with either the check valve or shutoff valve.

Anything I am missing?

This is one of those conversations where the blind are leading the clueless.
From “no gas cap” myths, to speculation on what is “best.” Replies are evident that several of you are grasping at straws to provide an “answer” of which you don’t have experience at.
It’s ok to not reply if you’re just conjuring up potential solutions or making up stories.

Why not just put an electric in-line fuel pump in? Pretty simple. Just add a switch at the dash. Probably cost under $50 in materials.

Common complaint on gassers. With capless systems on gassers as time goes on, dirt, grime eventually builds up on the filler door and gasket leading to the dreaded Evap system "slight" leak code and light.

Handling Diesel is even a dirtier more grimy affair so I suspect leakage may be even a bigger problem with them.. But most won't know since the Diesels do not have a evap system test..

Common fix that works is to replace the capless filler neck with a standard filler neck with removable cap..

Motorized valves are out there but they add in a motor control circuit board and some sort of spring return to shut the valve when powered off.. Solenoids by their nature also use a spring to snap the valve shut when not powered.. Both versions can be prone to mechanical or electrical failure.

I would go with manual fill valve for mere simplicity whenever possible. You HAVE to eventually stop somewhere for rest stops and meals, just open the valve and transfer some fuel while you are taking a break..

That is what I do with my gasser, I carry a 15 gallon landscaper tank and use a electric fuel pump and hose to manually transfer to the vehicle tank..

Just put a veton 12 volt normally closed fuel valve in the line. Hook it up to 12 volts with the switch in the cab to open it. You can open or close it based on your fuel gauge. My such valve has been working flawlessly for years. Aux tank needs a vent, cap or otherwise.

It sounds like the mechanized ball valve may be an overkill. Perhaps a simpler solenoid would work better. It will be nice to leave the manual shutoff valve open, use the solenoid to control the aux tank remotely and let the check valve keep main tank from overflowing. I am just a little confused with the no gas cap situation and what it means.

No, it has nothing to do with having a gas cap or not.
I guess wiring in an electric valve with a solenoid that is plumbed into essentially the same piece is less complicated? (because you’d still want a check valve unless you like systems that are completely reliant on the operator never making an error)
And of course, a manual shutoff on the slip tank.

You can purchase a kit with a ball valve in it that stops the fuel when tank is full. I have one on my 2019 Ram and it works great, no problems so far. Also have a manual valve at the tank should there be a problem.
