- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerI feel akin to the Lone Ranger's horse when it comes to heat sink compound. The silver stuff works way better than ceramic or zinc oxide. The toroids generate a lot of heat. Anxious to tear down the Mega and see if the bridge rectifier failed. If so, a 45-amp replaces a 25-amp sooo easy. That and silver glop otter do it.
- NinerBikesExplorerThank you scvjeff, for slobbering a bunch of heat sink paste on my MegaWatt where the walls sit up against the transistors, when putting in the 1k ohm pot.
Hopefully that will prevent it from embowelling it's electrical guts out in a heated poof of blue sparks and ionized air smells. - MEXICOWANDERERExplorerYeah the BORG has Star Trek grade finned heatsinks on the case right over the bi-polar transistors. Cheap @#$%^&! don't use SILVER heat-sink compound, and the transistors sit on an aluminum plate, sandwiched to the case. El Stupid. Glopping on Arctic Silver radically reduces the heating of the plastic case and aluminum base of the transistors. If you read my post haranguing metal speculators I had to spend $100+ to get enough Arctic Silver to be worth a ****. I hope those @#$%^&!'s drown at their winter mansion in Mallorca.
- JiminDenverExplorer IIMex, it's on its way today. I look forward to the autopsy.

Trying to bring up the three 8-Ds kept it at full power far too long and it over heated I believe. First the fan went nuts and then it stopped being able to push up the voltage. I didn't know of the borg enhancements until it was too late. - NinerBikesExplorerJim, what was the torture test that emitted the blue smoke aroma?
- MEXICOWANDERERExplorerEet iss goink on zee table mitten zee tools and instrukments to be examined fully.
- JiminDenverExplorer IIIt's sitting on a shelf. Think you can fix it? I'll send it down to the collective.
