Hitch Receiver Mud Flaps

The aluminum tread plate on my 5th wheel is taking a beating even though I have factory mud flaps on my Dodge 2500. Will the much larger hitch receiver type flaps keep most of the mud and stones off? Are solid better than string type. Any down side to having them on the truck?

Thanks,
Ed

  • I always thought that the brush type would last longer, less chance of a backup accident or snow accumulation doing it's nastiness.
  • I built a unit to go in my receiver that has 4 large heavy rubber truck mud flaps all the way across and are barely off the ground when hooked up and ready to roll. Ran over a Road Gator once, it knocked it down and never touched the fifth wheel.

I also have Road Wings and they are great. Keeps the trailer clean safe from debris. Mine are about 3" from the ground when hooked up. The closer to the ground the better.
  • I have a set of Roadmaster Roadwing flaps.......they are wide enough that only a small area of 5'vr gets any road grime

Been on truck for over 6 yrs.
After hooking up 5'vr I had to trim 4" off bottom so that they weren't dragging....1" road clearance when towing.
