Honda 2000

Well I'm in the market for a new gen to run my Coleman Mach 1 PS; at 10 amps running with built in start kit. I don't see why an eu2000i would be an issue. If it can start it, run it, and keep the voltage where it needs to be, it's a good fit IMO.

I feel more comfortable pairing a set of Eu2000i's for running my Dometic 13.5K Btu AC unit. Most of the time, though, I am at higher elevations where AC is not necessary... my Diesel motor did the work instead hauling everything else up the mountain. I get all of it back when I go down hill.

I do run my Eu2000i genny a bit hard running the microwave, but that is rarely over 7 or 8 minutes a shot.Warm the gennie up, then run the microwave. Always warm the motor up before putting in under heavy load, for at least 3 minutes.

Define "under strain"? Running at rated? I thinks not! The EU2000 has a larger engine than comparable generators, I don't think they are "straining" at max rated output. I think one of the benefits of parting with the extra cash for a Honda, you don't have to worry about such things. I for one have no place in my life for mechanical sympathy, either it's designed to do it or it isn't. And if my comfort ie; running my AC vs feeling sympathy for a generator or compressor or what ever is a factor. Let it "strain" all it wants!

After owning several different Honda products I would agree. It's designed to run at 1600 watts and surge to 2000 intermittently. That's why they cost more, they are durable and well designed. I have a 3000 honda and I run it full load at times and dont fear overheating it. A heavier load does exert more pressure on the engine parts but that's why I change the oil more often than recommended.

My informal testing has shown if the LRA on your RV a/c is approx. 50 amps or less, an EU2000i will reliably start/run it with the ECO mode on. With the ECO mode off, it should start an a/c with an LRA up to 53-54 amps.

FYI, some of the older Coleman 11k units have an LRA as high as 58-60 amps. Low likely-hood an EU2000i will reliably start these units with the ECO mode on. Odds do go up with the ECO mode off, but it's still hit or miss. Some of the latest generation Coleman Mach PS 11k units have an LRA as low as 41 amps. An EU2000i has absolutely NO problem starting these units with the ECO mode on.

IMO, "running" amps with the vast majority of RV 13.5k a/c's is mostly a non-issue with the EU2000i. It's the startup/inrush current that's the real, no-go, deal killer. Most OEM 13.5k RV a/c units draw about 11-14 amps "running" (11k typically less). Although it's not ideal running an EU2000i at max load (13.3 amps), I've seen these units used and abused at max output (and more) for hundreds of hours at a time at construction sites and festivals with no issues.

My opinion is that running it continuously up to 1,600 VA will cause no harm.

I use a 2000 watt gen up to 8000 btu and a 3500 watt on anything larger. Yes, a 2000 will probably run the 11,000 btu A/C, but you will reduce the life of the generator by doing so.

do what I would do. try and see.
