  • Why not use the Factory installed drain hose to drain the carb? Takes 60 seconds. Chino

    Mark,

That is just WAY too COOL!

Great idea! I actually have a small two channel radio remote control that could do the same thing. (Came with my winch) When camping I usually have the generator 25-50 feet from the camper. Can't even hear it at that distance. But I'd love to be able to shut it off without going outside.....especially in the rain or snow...

    Thanks!

Hope you're 25-50 feet away from adjacent campsites also...
  • I started running ethanol free gas in my Honda EU2000i...so far, so good. I am going to post a new thread about an issue I am having with my EU2000i.

  • That's a clean mod. Well done & thanks for sharing ! ! !
Draining these carb's before long term storage is the key to easy starting in the future… I did a similar mod on my 2K Honda, but added a 4-pin connector and wiring which gives me the flexibility to use the generator at home or shut down (and/or select 'Eco') from inside my camper.
    Cheers,

  • Actually, you don't even need to install the "RUN" switch. Just disconnect the plug, turn the engine switch to "OFF" and let it run out of gas. Since you only need to do this for long term storage, it might be the way to go if you don't want to modify.

If you left the plug disconnected, you would not have a way to shut the generator down quickly in an emergency. My generator will not "choke out" with the use of the choke. And cutting just the fuel, my generator will run for quite a few minutes before fuel starvation shuts it down.

So if you disconnect the switch for long term storage fuel drain, reconnect it before you use the generator again............
  • That's an interesting way to go about it. Others I've seen add a valve to stop the flow of fuel. Obviously that's a lot more complicated than just adding a switch to the ign system. Simple yet great idea!
