I forget if you can wind the cord on backwards. I remember a pull start lawnmower that had a separate little cord you put on the wheel and wound it up and then pulled. I pulled and pulled, no joy. Turned out I was winding it on backwards because left handed! :) Wound it on the other way around and pulled--started first time!
