I have dealt with the same situation, i.e. blinking oil light, for over two years and haven't found a good reason. It pops up whenever I change the oil. It has happened when I picked it up and maybe tilted it 45 degrees or so. I let it sit for a day and then it may start. When I run it now I always turn off the fuel and let the gas run out. So far it has not been a problem for the last 6 months or so but it will probably show up again after the next oil change. I just assumed, like you, that the oil float was sticking. Even tried cutting the sensor wire to see if it would help (yellow I think) and ramming coarse wire into the fill hole to free it up to no avail.
I don't load it up to take camping anymore because I don't trust it, but when I use it for home outages I gently roll it out and turn on the fuel valve. It has started every time recently. Turning the fuel off and running it out of the carb probably has nothing to do with whether it starts but that's just my routine.
Very interested to see if you come up with a solution. I really haven't, but I know it has to do with the blinking oil light. Mine is 13 years old and has a gazillion hours on it. When it runs it purrs.
As you see in my posts I also have a pair of IS2000i models that can be used when tailgating. They're just louder and burn more gas.
