in the 15 years we've owned our honda 2000 generators we have very often had them running in the open in a heavy rain. the option was either (a) not run it at all (b) put it under the trailer to run it or (c) run it in the rain.
option (b) is NOT a wise choice, given the high chance of CO getting into the trailer.
Others we have camped with have also run them in the rain with no ill effects.
Now, honda will say NO!
