Both outlets would be live but the power is divided between them, A Honda 2,000 is what, 1750 watts continous, so you get almost exactly 30 amps total (29 and a bit) if one side is pulling 10 amps, that leaves 19 for the other.
I would not spend the additional cost on the Companion, I'd get a regular 2000i Same amount of power total, The advantage of the companion is
1: has the 30 amp outlet
2: uses a lower cost parallel cable
3: No wasted usless 12 volt outlet.
