Hey all, I've read hundreds of posts on how to keep thieves from stealing honda gennies. I just bought a honda 2000i to take along and I figure the best way to keep it safe is to make other people think it's something else. I bought a medium dog kennel and blocked off the vents and kennel door with black painted plastic. That way to the casual walk by it looks like a empty kennel. NOW that being said if someone was keeping an eye on me they would notice the cord sticking out of the kennel when I'm using it (and no dog). If I locked it up tight then others would KNOW for sure that I have something valuable.A buddy said I should put it in a lockable box and use my old and broken kawasaki gennie as a decoy. LOL.

I put a padlocked chain through generator's handle and run it though rear stabilizers. That won't stop a serious thief with hacksaw, but it will keep someone from just walking off with it.

Our Honda 3000 is locked with a cable lock. If we leave, it is in the 5er or locked in my truck.

And that's exactly why Honda now sells a steel reinforcement handle for the 2000. Looping a cable through there is a joke. Anytime mine is out I have a thick tensioned cable locked around the gen, top to bottom, and another cable locked to the RV. Not perfect, but way slower than a battery saw through the handle.

Never had a problem in a CG when we dry camped. You can see all the RV's with gennys chained to the back. We have a 3000i and its heavy when loaded 135#, I used a 1/2 round wire gorilla lock with a round key. You would need a significant power tool or torch to sever this. That would probably attract some attention. I would image the 2000 being so light like a suitcase, I would probably just throw it back into the rv until we returned from wherever if I felt nervous about it.
