House batteries off gassing with Tripp Lite
Hi everyone, I have a 2005 Chinook with a Tripp Lite charger/inverter model 612. Both of my Wal Mart Everstart group 27 batteries have a terrible smell. All the settings on the Tripp Lite are correct...

Actually, if OP is using group 27 "Marine/RV" battery they are a "combo" use which is intentioned for starting AND TROLLING MOTOR useage.. Kind of a half breed which works half as well for both uses (IE not very well for either use)..
I would however agree with the idea of going with a PURPOSE BUILT DEEP CYCLE battery instead of a combo RV/Marine.
I suspect the OP is expecting way to much from the current selection of battery they have..
The reason for this is a group 27 RV/Marine battery typically has about 80 Ahr of capacity.. Because it is a combo battery, deep discharges to 50% of capacity (40 Ahr) WILL drastically shorten the life of that battery in just a few cycles..
Those combo batteries should not have more than 16 Ahr-20 Ahr removed IF you want to maximize the battery life.. Removing 50% or 40 Ahr will result in replacing the battery every couple of years..
40 Ahr can be easily removed by running a RV furnace overnight and a couple of hrs of some lights and perhaps a few minutes of water pump usage.
On my first TT, I ran one group 27, it just barely had enough capacity to run the furnace by the time I got up in the morning..
Fast forward to my current TT, I use a pair of 6V GC batteries which powers my home fridge conversion, furnace and lights and I STILL have considerable capacity left in the morning.
