I appreciate all the great input. You're all making me think lol.
As for the GC2s, I have enough wiggle room to make them fit. With the dissemble, I also found I move things around a bit. The GC2s will fit height wise, if I keep them centered between two metal brace pieces. Ought to provide you guys with a photo.
It's my understanding the 6v GC2s will handle deep draws on power better than the 12volts, as they are not designed to provide starting power. Came from several reliable sources. Going with AGMs for ease of use. We just had the camper up to Alaska for two months, and we both had minor throat irritations a lot. Makes me wonder.
Crawled up on the roof yesterday to look at solar panel apps. We're going to remove the TV antenna, which gives a usable 96 x 44 inch space. Could fit a couple of narrow panels along the edges - AM solar has some 150 watts that are narrow (31" I think) but they are all 12v panels. They have 100 watts at 47x21, and I could fit four in that larger space. Want to go at least 24v panels, though, for the higher amperage (tentavely tristar 60 controller).
If anyone knows of a manufacturer who makes higher voltage,, narrower panels, I appreciate hearing about them.
This afternoon I'm going to check out the main electrical components. I want to put the batteries in this week, but want to make sure the converter is up to the task first, as I won't have solar probably for a month. Install from the batteries up, and upgrade the system - and some wiring - as I go. Also make some repairs to the unit itself.
Pianotuna - did catch your insights on panel placement and cardboard templates. Good idea.
Well, first order of the day is to unjam the garbage disposal - in the stick and brick. The DW will let me go out and play in the camper.
