Why?
Thicker plates allow for additional shedding if overcharging becomes extensive in order to drive sulfation back into solution.
The cured plates become less and less permeable, which lessens sulfation accumulation in more inaccessible nooks and crannies. An RV battery with 2-volt cell plates may yield a CCA of 175 amps. This of course is conjecture.
