I ask, due to the fact that all controllers state to hook up battery connections first, then the panel connections. Maybe that is only to tell the controller what voltage it is looking at??
Yes controller may be damaged if disconnected from the battery before the solar panels feeding the controller are disconnected.
The controller should be wired direct to the battery and not through the RV battery disconnect.
It is rather amazing how many things in the RV can be damaged by simple oversight.
