My inverter is going to be about 4-5 feet from the battery bank, and maybe an additional foot or two by the time I run the wire. I am using 2 gauge wire. Is that too far? The inverter will only see...

Then pick how low you might be down to when you want to run the appliance. My own requirement is to be able to run the toaster for early breakfast when the batteries are down to 50% and due to be recharged later that day.
Your inverter to battery distance is easily doable with the right set-up, so the distance itself is not an issue.
