ExxonMobil recommends a five-year maximum shelf life for engine oils, including Mobil 1™ synthetic motor oil.

Nothing there specific for being in an engine.
I find it interesting they do give it a shelf life.

Going to the Valvoline site they heave no expiration for oil.
Different mix, different process.
