Convenience, no noise, no fuel and what he isn't telling you is that hour of generator run time isn't enough to fully charge your battery. The last 10-15% take a lower charge rate over time, something solar is better at.
Another thing is if you run the generator to charge in the morning, everything you do until the next morning is taken from the battery. Solar continues providing both for small loads that wont even take from the battery and recharging after large loads like a microwave.
Last, there are places you can go that do not have hook ups or allow for generator use at all.
