Old or fresh out of the box if its not done right it can fail.. One of mine failed due to bad workmanship.. I fixed the workmanship on the other so it is still working as I type... (Sadly the company that made it is now out of the RV HEVAC business)
There are a couple of Home Security systems that have the ability to work with a cell phone on the Family plan (Only costs an additional 10 bucks usually) and call a designated phone if the heat is rising too high.. .I can not recommend any of the plans that offer that... But I know they exist.
One slight advantage of a newer one.
My "Old" one is 13,500 BTU draws 13.5 amps per the label (Is trippign 20 amp breaker)
The New one is 15,000 BTU (more cool as Tim Allen might say) and draws.... the exact same 13.5 amps.
