Don't make it complicated.....
Extend awning fully
Spray down the topside with a bleach/soap/water mix in a sprayer (I use a 2 gallon lawn sprayer)1/2 cup bleach 1/2 cup dish soap
Spray from top down.......then start retracting awning spraying from bottom up as it retracts.
Sink back, read, have a cold drink (or hot)......30 minutes.
Then extend and rinse off both sides..........let dry....retract.
