Are you talking about jalousie windows—the kind with several glass slats that angle up together kind of like blinds?
The gearbox for the jalousie windows in the bedroom of my Coachmen RV are attached to the window frame with a few rivets. This is pretty obvious looking at it, as the frame in question is an intermediate one—there are fixed glass panels on either side of the opening ones to fill the D-shaped space between the rounded outside frame and the rectangular mechanized portion.
