how to safely deenergize capacitor
I need to replace a ac compressor capacitor and was wondering how to safely deenergize it?also how do itest it after to make sure it is deenergized.I do not like getting shocked!

WESTEND has it right. Shorting the + and - together on a charged up cap can very easily destroy the cap. Discharging it thru a resistor or light bulb as above will be safer for both the cap and you.
