How to utilize existing wiring in ceiling

Am going to buy a Fantastic Fan for our bedroom. A ceiling vent currently resides above bed without power.

However, there is a ceiling light 6 inches from the vent opening which is a likely candidate to get power from. There may even be lines close to the existing vent.

Having said that....when I locate the wiring, how do I tap into it in order to power the new fan?

Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thanks again!

If I take rooftop cover and slip vent up and out, do you think there may be enough space showing where wires may be?

Maybe not, if there are boards on all 4 sides. I think you'll have to strip the insulation and tap into the light wires, without cutting them. Or cut them and put wire nuts, if this is easier.

Edit - PS: what I meant is that you'll (probably) have to access those light wires near the ceiling light. Remove the dome cover, unscrew the light base from the ceiling. Carefully try and pull the wires out of the hole. If you get lucky, you'll see wire nuts, here is where you can connect. If there are no wire nuts, then cut/strip those wires and insulate everything again. Run the fan leads on surface of ceiling panel, you said this is only 6" distance. Cover it with a piece of Wiremold raceway if you like.

I sent an email to Jayco Customer Service to inquire of an electrical diagram of fiver. Hope I'm on the right track.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks.

  • All of the above.

Remember to disconnect 115V power from trailer, and disconnect the battery while working on the electrical systems.

In parallel. Black to black, red to red. There should be a wire nut somewhere nearby. If there are no bare ends or a wire nut, strip insulation on the wires to the light and attach your fan leads there.
  • Remove the garnish from the existing vent. There could be wire already in place as sch911 says.
  • I would bet that if you took off the vent's inner liner you'll find 12V wiring in there. Most RV vents are pre-wired for vent fans.
