I grabbed it with a pair of 1/4" wide thin nose pliers and gave it good tug. The plastic base came out of its base, but at least then I could get a good grasp on the two and pull the bulb out. And, yes it does look like a wedge base. Thanks for the advice. I hate breaking things and do it often.
