HWH Fuse holder melted - wire gets hot when storing jacks

I am experiencing a problem with my HWH Jacks. The jacks operate fine, raise the coach, retract with no issues. But upon retracting (pressing the store button) the inline 40 amp fuse holder (by the pump) completely melted and was smoking. Called HWH and they said to replace the corroded fuse holder. I removed the melted fuse holder, replaced with only a new 40 amp blade fuse to observe. When raising the jacks, the wires and fuse itself stay completely cool. But when pressing the "STORE" button, the jacks retract, but the wire and 40 amp fuse itself get very hot. Fuse does not blow, but the fuse and connectors are very hot. Anyone have an idea on what the problem could be? I don't want to simply replace the fuse holder, because I think it will likely just melt again. seems to be a problem somewhere, but I don't know where to look next.

  • i replaced (2) coils in my system, and they draw less than 2 amps each
    "HydraForce
    • Part number: 6352012"

don't know what the OP has in his system, but near 10 amps per coil, seems high
  • I did not state 10 amps per coil.

I stated that each coil is PROTECTED by a 10 amp fuse. Doug

I tried putting my multimeter on amps and see what it is pulling but I could not get an accurate reading. I pushed 'store' and then took the reading, it only read 0.01 so I'm thinking I took the reading incorrectly, or it is only pulling amps at the moment that the 'store' button is pushed. But since it does not blow a 40 amp fuse, but it will blow a 15 amp fuse, I think I can assume it is pulling more than 15 amps, but less than 40. I might put a 30 in there and see if it blows the 30. New fuse holder gets delivered in a few days.
  • To read amps with multimeter, you have to disconnect one wire of the coil and put the meter inline in the circuit
    Or
Use a clamp on DC amp meter

And yes it will only read while the Jack's are retracting, that is when there is power bring applied to the coils

In STORE, all 4 solenoids are powered, not just one. Doug

Most of those in-line blade fuse holders are only rated for 20-30 amps (Some less) so you are really working it. As you did, cleaning it up and tightening is the "Fix" but you may wish to consider changing to a different type of fuse holder.. One with a higher rating, and sorry. I do not have any suggestions. Other than possibly a Maxi Fuse holder. Do not know the ratings on those.

YOU BUY A 40 AMP RATED ATC FUSE HOLDER. THEY MAKE THOSE. HWH USES THEM. Doug
