My meter panel is wired in directly to the two battery bank legs in my setup. I am using 4AWG battery cabling from the battery to the 12VDC Power Distribution FUSE Panels. Don'r see too much DC VOLTAGE drop (if any) when things are turned on. What I do see is the batteries being discharged as they are being used.
My DC Monitor Panel using digital meters from ebay-china

My wiring setup

I monitor my two battery banks in real time and when they approach 12.0VDC I am pretty sure they are approximately at their 50% discharge state. I have planned all of this to happen around 8AM each morning so I can connect my shore power cable directly to my 2KW Honda Generator 120VAC Receptacle using a RV30A-15A adapter. This will re-charge my battery banks back up to their 90% charge state in about three hours when I am allowed to run my generator.
I can do these 50% to 90% cycles for 12-14 times before I have to do a full 100% battery charge which would take me a good 12 hours to do. The camp grounds where we camp here on the EAST side of the US of course will not allow me to run my generator that long so this is usually when we head for the house.
This is what works for us camping off the power grids...
