It sounds like the AC is thermally protected and is getting too hot. That could be from too large a current draw. Causes of that could be as simple as a loose wire into a terminal or as complex as a shorted winding in the compressor motor.
Since your rig is new, I guess you can enforce your warranty and have the dealer fix what ails it. Sorry to hear about a new one having problems, best of luck getting it resolved.
