Excellent! While in there spending time and money what about considering a hardwired PI EMS EMS unit in that area? As said, gotta watch the battery venting. Some say you should even put sealed batteries in a sealed/vented box as they can off-gas if overcharged (another reason to upgrade the converter). If you are considering a vented box like the MTS products one, the outlet vent is supposed to be min. 6" higher than the top of the box and you should have the intake vent extending to the exterior and not into an enclosed underbelly.

So I might pull it, install a Marinco outlet on the exterior and not have to store the cable in there... I also thought of installing a vent with a really small 12v fan to keep that area cool and vented.. almost a neg pressure area.. always drawing a small amount of air from the interior to vent outside... either run AGMS or wet cell GC batts, mount the inviter in there as well....
