Not sure of date they started mfg. of that type of valve but Sherwood has been in business since 1890s

The business of 'compressed gases' came about in 1916 but really grew in the 1940s

Your best bet might be to check with the propane distributors in your area, particularly those that operate tank exchange locations. People frequently turn in old outdated tanks to get a newer tank with the currently required OPD service valve.

That is a POL valve with built in relief.

The bonnet assembly was defective and most have probably been destroyed.


Finding one still intact with old bonnet (vs replacement).....
Tough part it was used on cylinders and can't think of a place/business that would have kept them when changed out starting back in 1998


Correction on that date code.....D8
Alphabetic letter and Single Digit was used up until 1976 so D8 would be Aug 1968 (or 1958)
After 1976 double digit numerical was used.

D8 would be mfg. date.......Aug 1978, 1988 etc.

Old-Biscuit, I am not sure. In the photos that I have, the valve is stamped,

SHERWOOD
3329 LP-GAS

There is a D8 stamped on the relief valve body but I think that my be an indication of the manufacture date.

I can send you pictures as well if you think you can help me further identify what I'm looking at.
