Installing an inverter on truck to power compressor

I'm putting airbags on my TV and have decided that instead of getting the on board air option I would instead install an inverter and a stand-alone 2-3 gal air compressor. That would also give me 120...

Why does the compressor need to run on AC?

Just get a DC compressor like everyone else, then get a little inverter to power your electronic gadgets.

You'll be money ahead versus getting an inverter with enough juice to power an AC compressor .01% of the time, and will power electronic gadgets 99.99% of the time.
