Installing new anode rod

For my rig it would be. If you're using Yuma water that may be why.

Yup, high mineral content.

Earlier today, I just finished replacing the anode in my Suburban water heater.

The old one was 70 percent gone.

The RV was built 6 months ago.

The new one is Magnesium (Suburban Part No. 232767)

They also make an Aluminum version (Part No. 232768), which Suburban recommends for water with high mineral content.

I remove the anode rod and never had a problem.

You may not have had a problem, but it's not a good idea to recommend it to anyone. Sometimes it's a good idea to stick to what the manufacturer recommends, they actually have reasons on occasion. :)

Looks like a bigger problem in the near future when corrosion eats up on the tank itself (the purpose of the anode is to sacrifice itself).

I replaced mine after a year and it was toast. Water started to smell like sulfur. We have a lot of Iron in our water so it makes sense. They are sacrificial so it's doing it's job. Given the cheap cost and ease of replacement I may start doing this every 6 mos.

Own a new 21 model. Spent 5 months in it. Went to winterize it and decided it needed to be replaced.

Sometimes the water in Yuma has a funny smell -- if you can detect it, you have a well developed scents of Yuma. ;)
