Anode Rod Wear
What would cause severe wear to the rod at the connection end? Almost no wear on the rest of the rod. I use teflon tape on the threads. Two brand new rods, two years in a row.
To redirect back to the original question. what about if a new rod is not decaying like it should? They always decayed like they should and then all of a sudden the new rod wasn't, I'm not sure if it was magnesium or aluminum composition, I didn't know that there were two types available.
My water heater doesn't get hot . Could it be this rod .
no. I would suggest starting a new thread with your issues.
No. It’s an anode, not a heating element.
First, you would get more responses by posting a new topic instead of a response buried in a 3 year old thread. But to your question, no. The Anode protects your WH from corrosion. It's sacrificial. If your WH is not getting hot, it's likely your heating element.
Thanks

It's this rod. I'll just plan on buying a new one before camping season.

lots of life left for those two rods
Yep, if thats from one season of use it looks like they would be good for another 8-10 years, but if folks feel better wasting money every year for a new rod more power to them. Those rods will perform just as well as a new one.

Those rods look good, if each had a years use. You can easily get another year of use out of either of those. Looks like 80% or more left, and should be able to use down to 25-50% with still good protection.
Your money, you decide, but changing to aluminum not necessary.
