Internal leak in Fantastic Fan

I heard a strange noise coming from my tub/shower area last night.
Sounded like a drip of water hitting the tub.

I investigated and stood there a couple minutes and there it was. A drop of water forming on the bottom of the fuse holder in the control area of the FF. and then Ploink! into my tub.

Hmmmm - odd thing. The lid was closed and it was raining lightly and also snowing a bit.

It seems strange that water would show up here. The unit is definitely sealed to my roof. I installed it.

I just don't see how water can get inside and drip out the fuse.

Anyone else ever had this happen? has me rather puzzled.

One however here - the roof is contoured diagonally where the fan is installed and the lid does not close all the way on one corner. But this shouldn't allow water to drip internally.

It lets go one drop about every 2 - 3 minutes and it only did it last night. Never before, never since.

  • I had a crack develop in the corner of the frame of the external housing. The flange was sealed down tight, but the Dicor caulking bead that sealed the flange acted like a dike, the water was retained inside the "dike" and would leak down into the frame of the fan. It was hard to spot, and I sanded it down, cleaned with a solvent, and sealed with a fresh bead of Dicor.

I have photos but I won't post photos on this forum.
  • Another possibility is a roof leak somewhere else and the water migrating under the roof to the vent.
  • Not out the fuse, no. But around the fascia. It was a leaky mount. Maybe if you removed the fascia, you could find the leak. Water does move around easy to get to the lowest point ...
  • Condensation?

Warm humid interior air and cold vent cover...
