The 3-way would replace the existing transfer switch. It would have 3 inputs, 1 output.

Or a standard 30 amp switch is fine. Place it between the existing and the main breaker panel. Go Power has a 30 amp switch that breaks out power for the converter to avoid the charge loop.

Yes you need 4/0 wire to the battery.
