I agree with Mena for having a small wattage Inverter hooked up. - Yes a 12VDC TV like Camper Paul has is more efficient running straight from the battery but that is all you get... Just a TV. They are getting harder to find as well.
You won't be able to run your CD PLayer, run a NOAH WX Alert Radio, your cell phone charger, your computer charger, and many other small wattage 120VAC items... They all have to be 12VDC items and have a place to plug them in...
My 600WATT PSW Inverter is "ON" all the time and is remote controlled. I run a couple of 120VAC extension cord drops from it, one going to the home entertainment area and the other going to the bedroom nite stand area. These two 120VAC drops are my emergency power sources always "on" as long as I have batteries up and running... Even when camping at a regular electric camp ground I still use my emergency to run my home entertainment items from the Inverter. This is my poor man UPS system...
I also use another smaller 300WATT INVERTER for my outside 120VAC lights, motion detector etc... It is clipped into my battery terminals when I need to use it. I also have a 650WATT MSW Inverter in my truck to use when I need some 120VAC power... Being MSW however I have to watch what I plug into it...
I can use my 600WATT Inverter to grind up my coffee beans and use the propane stove burner to brew up coffee in my Coleman perculator... this is my backup bean coffee making method.
Of course everyone has different ideas and that's great. For me it works out great for all the things we do when camping off the power grid. I am not a fan of the DC cigarette lighter plug and only have one of those in my trailer which on the OTA antenna panel. Everything appliance wise we have is 120VAC... Even our electric blanket the wifes loves to have over her lap when watching tv when it is cool weather works like a champ...
Just me...
