Two tools I find very useful are a volt meter and a test light.. The volt meter tells if there is voltage there or not (no load) and the test light is quick, easy indication of POWER under load.
In this case.. I do not know your inverter.. On MY inverter there is a 3 position switch On/Off/Remote
In the OFF position (or in remote with the remote switch off) it is OFF and I mean OFF, no power in no power out on either 12 volt or 120 volt side.
Another issue I have seen (This likely would not apply if the inverter is after market) I usually phrase as kind of a joke....
Many RVers have a few screws loose.
In my rig it was not the after market inverter..... It was one of the air conditioners.. The screw on the circuit breaker took over TWO FULL TURNS before I felt anything resembling resistance.. Another screw in teh box was over one full screw.. I wound up putting the old #2 Square bit on every screw in the box (NOTE: DO THIS WITH SHORE POWER PLUG WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT, NOT PLUGGED IN, AND GENERATOR OFF PLEASE).
Also one of the screws on my power inlet was loose. Things worked much better when fixed
Another camper in the CG where I am now... The outlet on his shore cord fell off in his hand.. NOT one of the six screws inside it were tight.
The joke.. I'm talking about genuine metallic type screws most of which take a #2 Square bit or a #2 Phillips to tighten.
